Terms of service

1. Definitions

  • Ahrefs means Ahrefs Pte. Ltd. and its affiliates.
  • Ahrefs Connect means Ahrefs’ program that enables third-party integrations with the API for shared customers.
  • API means the Ahrefs application programming interfaces, SDKs, documentation, and related materials.
  • Developer (or you) means the party building and operating the App.
  • App means your publicly available software product that is integrated or to be integrated with the API.
  • End User means a natural person who is assigned a seat under or who otherwise uses an active and paid Ahrefs account, and who or whose organisation authorises the App to access their Ahrefs account.
  • Ahrefs Data means data returned by the API.
  • Existing Agreement means your existing agreement with Ahrefs for legacy integration or an Ahrefs Enterprise Plan.
  • Ahrefs Connect Terms means these Terms.

2. Eligibility

To participate in Ahrefs Connect, your App must be a publicly available product with an existing user base (and you will provide reasonable proof on request). The App must not directly compete with any product or service offered by Ahrefs or substantially replicate the core functionality or interface of any product or service offered by Ahrefs. For any new integration with Ahrefs Connect, you will require an Ahrefs Enterprise Plan. Admission to, and continued participation in, Ahrefs Connect are at Ahrefs’ sole discretion.

3. End-User-Only Access Model

You may access and use Ahrefs Data solely on behalf of individual End Users who hold active and paid Ahrefs accounts and have provided valid, revocable authorisation. Do not display Ahrefs Data to anyone other than the End User, and do not pool, aggregate, or cross-display one End User’s data to others except where explicit and appropriate authorisation has been collected. If an End User revokes authorisation or their account is downgraded or suspended for non-payment, you must promptly cease access for that End User and delete any cached Ahrefs Data, except to the extent retention is legally required.

4. Changes, Suspension and Discontinuation

Ahrefs may modify Ahrefs Connect, the API, or these Terms at any time. For material reductions in functionality, we’ll use commercially reasonable efforts to give at least 30 days’ notice; for planned program discontinuation, at least 30 days’ notice. We may implement changes or suspend access immediately where required by law, to address security, privacy and system risks, or to prevent abuse. Notices may be sent by email, via the developer dashboard, or posted in documentation pages. Where there is any change or discontinuation, you must discontinue use of all components or aspects of Ahrefs Connect which Ahrefs identifies or states (whether by email or via the developer dashboard) as invalid or no longer in use and delete any Ahrefs Data in connection with the components or aspects of Ahrefs Connect as identified. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Ahrefs is not liable for costs or losses arising from such actions. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

5. License & IP Ownership

Ahrefs retains sole ownership of all intellectual property rights in Ahrefs Connect, the API, Ahrefs Data and any product, service or information offered by Ahrefs in connection with Ahrefs Connect. Subject to these Terms, Ahrefs grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to call the API solely to integrate your App for End Users.

6. Permitted Use & Restrictions

You will: (a) use only documented endpoints and scopes; (b) avoid misleading, deceptive, or unlawful uses; and (c) comply with all applicable laws. You will not: (i) scrape, mine, or bulk export Ahrefs Data; (ii) circumvent auth, rate limits, or fees; (iii) reverse engineer or interfere with the API; (iv) build substitute or competing features; (v) resell, redistribute or provide Ahrefs Data to any party other than the End User; (vi) use it in a way that violates or encourages the violation of applicable law; and/or (vii) expose to End User or any party, a user’s non-public content, if obtained through the API without the user’s explicit consent.

7. Data Caching & Retention

Cache only to improve App performance and only for as long as necessary for the End User’s use. On revocation, account lapse, or when no longer needed, promptly purge caches. Do not reconstruct datasets or maintain shadow databases of Ahrefs Data.

8. Rate Limits & Fair Use

You must respect published or communicated limits. Ahrefs may throttle, cap, or prioritize traffic in its discretion to protect platform stability. You will not rotate credentials or use multiple apps/keys to bypass limits.

9. Security

Maintain reasonable and appropriate administrative, technical, and physical safeguards aligned with industry standards. Protect credentials, rotate keys if compromise is suspected, and store secrets securely. Notify Ahrefs of any incident affecting Ahrefs Data or the API within 72 hours of discovery and provide Ahrefs with all reasonable assistance and support for remediation.

10. Privacy & Data Protection

You are independently responsible for your processing of personal data and must provide a clear privacy notice, obtain all required consents/legal bases, and honour data subject rights. Do not combine Ahrefs Data with third-party data in a manner that would expose one user’s data to another without each End User’s discrete authorisation. Comply with applicable privacy laws and regulations, including cross-border transfer requirements.

11. Monitoring & Audit

Ahrefs may monitor usage for compliance (including through technical means) and request logs or other reasonable evidence. You will maintain accurate integration records and provide them within a reasonable time. Ahrefs may test your App (including creating test accounts) to verify adherence.

12. Suspension & Termination

In addition to Section 4, Ahrefs may suspend or terminate your keys, participation or access to Ahrefs Connect or API immediately due to breach, alleged or actual risk to security or platform integrity, failure to maintain eligibility requirements, repeated End-User complaints, or where mandated or required by applicable law. You may terminate at any time by ceasing use. Upon termination, cease all calls, delete prohibited caches.

13. Warranties & Disclaimers

Ahrefs Connect, API and Ahrefs Data are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without any representations, warranties, guarantees or conditions of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we expressly disclaim any and all warranties in relation to Ahrefs Connect, API and Ahrefs Data, whether statutory, express or implied, oral or written, including but not limited to the accuracy, condition, security, value, quality, non-infringement, non-interference, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, or that your use of Ahrefs Connect, API and Ahrefs Data will achieve any intended result, be continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free, or that Ahrefs Connect, API and Ahrefs Data will be compatible with any software, system or other service, or that we will update, revise, correct or rectify any errors or defects with Ahrefs Connect, API and Ahrefs Data.

14. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify Ahrefs and its affiliates against claims, losses, and costs arising in connection with (a) your App, (b) your breach of these Terms or applicable law, or (c) the alleged or actual infringement or misuse of third-party rights, including any intellectual property rights, by your App, your or your End Users’ actions in connection with any use of Ahrefs Connect.

15. Relationship to Existing Agreement; Order of Precedence

The Ahrefs Connect Terms supplement your Existing Agreement with Ahrefs. To the extent of any conflict or inconsistency, the provision that is more specific to the subject matter controls over a more general provision. If specificity cannot reasonably resolve the conflict, the following order of precedence applies: (i) any mutually executed order form or addendum (most recent controls); (ii) the Ahrefs Connect Terms for matters relating to Ahrefs Connect and the API; and (iii) the Existing Agreement.
